Staff Reporter Copies can be collected by producing latest bill receipt KOLLAM: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) new telephone directory for the Kollam Secondary Switching Area (SSA) was released on Monday. It was formally launched by P. Rajendran, MP, by handing over a directory to Kollam district’s first telephone subscriber, F.X.J. The directory, containing 928 pages of subscriber list and twenty-four yellow pages, is updated till March 31, 2006. It is after a gap of six years that the Kollam Telecom is coming out with a directory. Court litigations came in the way of the Kollam Telecom moves to come out with a directory during the past six years. Customers can get a copy of the new directory from the respective telephone exchanges by producing the latest bill receipt.
Subscribers under the Chinnakada Exchange with telephone numbers starting with 274, 275 and 276 will have to get their directories from the Vadayattukotta office of the BSNL. In his presidential address, BSNL Kerala Telecom Circle Chief General Manager K.S. Srinivasan said he had given instructions to the Kollam Telecom to come out with a supplementary directory which would contain an updated subscriber list. Srinivasan said the BSNL was poised to make a big increase in its Broad Band and WLL connections so as to clear the waiting list to the maximum possible extent. The mobile phone network of the BSNL will also be increased in a big way. The order for equipment needed for the purpose will shortly be placed. As part of the move to expand the mobile phone network, 1200 new towers will be set up across the State.
Kollam district will be having seventy-eight new towers, Mr. Srinivasan said. In the district, Broad Band connections will shortly be provided to twenty-seven more locations. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajendran said court interventions, at times, were leading to denial of justice.
